About us 
 
Forest of Dean Dog Rescue is a small independent charity that rescues and rehomes unwanted, abandoned and often mistreated dogs.  We are committed to taking older dogs, scared dogs, ex breeding dogs, and all of the local strays as well as many dogs who are handed in for a variety of reasons.   
 
By having our dogs go into foster homes, where they are carefully assessed and their individual needs are met, we get to know the dogs well and this puts us in a good position to carefully match dogs with potential new homes.  Every dog is an individual and deserves the right home. 
Although we do our very best to have all our dogs cared for in foster homes, sometimes there are no free spaces available so we then use boarding facilities at a local kennel. 
Some of our dogs have complex or expensive medical needs and they will then become lifetime foster dogs with their care paid for by the rescue. 
 
We are entirely funded by donations and fundraising.   
Everyone who works for the rescue is a volunteer so all our donations go to helping the dogs. Our fundraising team works extremely hard to put on fun events to cover medical and other expenses.  We also rely on donations from our wonderful supporters as without them, we could not do what we do.   
 
Every dog is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and given appropriate, parasite treatment.
